As consumers, most of us watch where we spend our money, right?
After all, there’s only so much money in the budget pot to cover food, clothing, housing, transportation, back to school supplies, and maybe a vacation here and there.
But according to self-professed “discreet dating site” ashleymadison.com, thousands of people in the Portland area are spending their dollars on other, errr, umm, extra-curricular activities.
The site, which suggests “Life is short. Have an affair,” says the greater Portland area has 6,700 registered “cheaters” on the site curious about breaking their marriage vows and hooking up with someone else. According to a new study of the website’s data, it says the most “affair-seekers” live in the East Deering Neighborhood.
- East Deering 8.9%*
- Munjoy Hill 8.7%*
- West End 8.3%*
- Falmouth 8.1%*
- Rosemont 7.6%*
- Cape Elizabeth 7.4%*
- Oakdale 7.2%*
- Scarborough 6.8%*
- Stroudwater 6.3%*
- Back Cove 5.9%*
“The Portland data is consistent with what we’ve seen in other cities,” says AshleyMadison.com founder and CEO Noel Biderman said. “Affluence is a common element found on most cities’ top ten lists while the proclivity to cheat often goes hand in hand with opportunity. Those with discretionary income and freedom to travel are even more likely to stray,” Biderman went on to say in a news release.
The break-your-vows website reports 59% of members in the greater Portland area are men with an average age of 39-years-old. The rest are women with an average age of 37-years-old.
The site is free for women, and men can get free access to limited features. But to send messages, you’ll need a full membership. I’m told the guys need to buy credits ranging from $49.00 for 100 credits to $249.00 for 1000 credits. And, in case you’re wondering, it costs five credits to send one message.
